Alan Llavore

Publications Coordinator, Public Affairs Assistant

California State University, San Bernardino

Alan Llavore is the publications coordinator for the Office of Public Affairs. In that role, he functions as an editor and oversees the production flow of jobs that come through the office, including brochures, newsletters, invitation packages, Web site development and the CSUSB magazine. He also writes news releases, primarily for the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, and oversees the daily updates of the campus's news Web site, at http://news.csusb.edu.

Prior to joining CSUSB in October 2001, Llavore worked for more than 17 years in the newspaper industry as a reporter and assignment editor. One minor claim to fame is that he was officially the last reporter hired by The Knickerbocker News, the daily afternoon newspaper in Albany, N.Y., before it closed in April 1988. Including “The Knick,” he worked at The News-Times in Danbury, Conn.; The Times-Union in Albany; The Vista Press in North San Diego County; the Santa Barbara News-Press; The Fresno Bee and The Press-Enterprise in Riverside. As a reporter, he covered local government and crime, as well as wrote a three-part series for The News-Times on the Philippines a year after the fall of Ferdinand Marcos’ dictatorship.

Llavore earned his bachelor’s degree in journalism from Cal State Long Beach, and was a member of the 1984 Summer Program for Minority Journalists at the University of California, Berkeley, which was run by the Maynard Institute for Journalism Education. He served as the national secretary for the Asian American Journalists Association and was a member of its national board. Off campus, he dabbles in distance running, participating in several marathons and half marathons, and served as the marathon coach in Rancho Cucamonga for Team In Training, the endurance athlete group that raises money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. He also is very active in the ministry of his church, Corona International Christian Fellowship.
