Joselyn Yap

Administrative Support Assistant

California State University, San Bernardino

A 2006 alumna of California State University, San Bernardino with a bachelor’s degree in liberal studies, Joselyn Yap is the office manager for the Office of Public Affairs at CSUSB.

As a Cal State San Bernardino student in 1996, Yap accepted her first paying job in the history department through the university’s work-study program. From there she worked as a student assistant in various departments, including University Advancement and Development. It was 1999 when she began work in the Office of Public Affairs, and, in 2002, became a full-time staff member as an administrative support assistant. After the retirement of the public affairs office manager in 2005, Yap made the natural transition into the position.

Today, Yap’s primary responsibility is to coordinate the calendar for the assistant vice president for public affairs, as well as to gather bids for and then track graphics jobs flowing into and out of the office and to manage the mailing of news releases to the media once written by public affairs staff.

The sometimes delicate work of handling the office’s budget also is a major part of her role. It includes monitoring state, trust and Foundation accounts; allocating funds and petty cash disbursements; making money transfers; analyzing how the office has spent funds and projecting future budget needs. Yap also oversees a staff of student assistants and part-time clerical workers.
