Here are some questions to keep in mind in developing your publication, before you meet with a publications staff member:
Message
- What is the purpose of the publication?
- What are your desired goals?
- What is your message or theme of your publication?
- Could you better accomplish your goals using a different tool or tactic?
Distribution
- Who is your audience?
- How will your publication be distributed? Will it be mailed? Will you need a reply card?
- How many copies do you need?
Text and Artwork
- Do you need help in writing the publication?
- What kind of publication are you seeking (envelope, flier, poster, brochure, postcard, booklet, newsletter, etc.)?
- Will your publication be full-color, grayscale or other?
- What kind of artwork (photographs or illustrations) will you require?
Budget and Policy
- What is your budget?
- Will you be using state money, or a Foundation account?
- Have you obtained the necessary approvals for the publication from your vice president, director or department head?
- When do you need your publication? Please be specific with a date.
