Cal State San Bernardino’s Office of Public Affairs is the first stop for media requesting information from or about Cal State San Bernardino. We provide full service support to the media, including news releases, statistics, biographies, background information, contact information, interviews, photographs and artwork. We are happy to arrange interviews with key campus personnel and direct media to the appropriate faculty expert, when needed.
The best way to build credibility with the media is through cooperation and honesty. Working with the media is about creating good relationships. While many organizations are creatively searching for new ways to generate positive media coverage, there are people who want to avoid media attention. Many believe that you can avoid media coverage just by stating “no comment” or by not returning a reporter's call. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Ensuring the correct approved spokesperson is accessible, accurate and honest with media helps the university to establish and maintain solid relationships with media who are informing and influencing many of the key audiences the university seeks to reach.
By providing input and responding to media inquiries, the university can help assure that media stories will be more balanced and often more positive. Without input, the probability of inaccuracies, inappropriate speculation or damaging innuendo increases dramatically.
Media inquiries should be funneled through the Office of Public Affairs, which will contact the appropriate campus spokesperson.
Campus departments hoping to generate publicity for their programs should contact the Office of Public Affairs or complete and submit the “Do it yourself news release” form.
